A community event has helped keep dozens of household items in use and out of landfill.

The first Preloved to Reloved event, held at Pirate Park in Windsor on Saturday, March 14, encouraged residents to donate bulky items for reuse, with around 80 good-quality items passed on to Thames Hospice and six more donated to The Baby Bank.

Mark Wilson, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, leisure and performance at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, said: "Thank you to everyone who donated and chatted with the team.

"Keeping good items in use helps local families, supports charity and cuts waste."

Items donated ranged from TVs and kitchen appliances to furniture and even a trumpet.

Councillor Wilson added: "We’re delighted with the response to our first Preloved to Reloved event.

"As we work to build a cleaner, greener, safer borough and support the Great British Spring Clean, the success of this event shows that residents, partners and volunteers are instrumental in achieving this."

The council is now planning a second event, with details set to be announced soon.

The event also supported Food Waste Action Week, with the team on hand to promote weekly food waste collections.

They will be outside Maidenhead Library on Wednesday, March 25, offering food waste liners, outdoor caddies, and recycling advice.
