A Tony Award-winning musical is set to light up the stage this month.

The Maidenhead Operatic Society will bring Mel Brooks’ 'The Producers' to life at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts from May 20 to 23.

The show tells the story of a struggling Broadway producer and his timid accountant who hatch a scheme to stage the worst musical ever written in a bid to scam their investors.

Things take an unexpected turn when the outrageous production becomes a surprise success.

Lou Tait, director, said: "The Producers musical takes Mel Brooks’ film and turns it into a musical filled with catchy tunes, non-stop laughter and big dance numbers.

"The show has provided us all with months of rehearsals filled with fun and laughter, and we can’t wait to get on stage and perform it."

'The Producers' won multiple Tony awards on its original Broadway run.

It later won three Oliver awards in the West End.

Janet Stone, chairman of Maidenhead Operatic Society, said: "The Producers is Brooks’ best known movie and the stage musical captures his unique humour perfectly.

"The Producers is farcical, crazy and pastiches many well-known musicals – Brooks at his best."

Maidenhead Operatic Society has been entertaining audiences since 1950, performing everything from operas and operettas to modern and classic musicals.

Tickets for 'The Producers' are available through the Norden Farm website or by calling the box office on 01628 788997.

The cast includes Niven Willet as Leo Bloom, Neala Whybrow as Ulla, and Ashleigh Wells as Max Bialystock.
