A former chair of governors at an Islamic primary school has been banned from the management of independent schools, over harassment.

Zafar Ali, who was once the chair of governors at Iqra Slough Islamic Primary School, received the prohibition direction on September 24, 2026.

The Secretary of State used section 128 of the Education and Skills Act 2008 to issue the direction.

The decision follows an independent investigation which confirmed Mr Ali had engaged in relevant conduct.

The investigation revealed instances of harassment, abuse of power within role, emotional manipulation, breaches in confidentiality and referring to staff members using a derogatory term.

As a result of these findings, the Secretary of State deemed Mr Ali unsuitable for participation in the management of independent schools, a ruling that also disqualifies him from serving as a governor at a maintained school.
