More than £200,000 has been awarded to projects working to prevent crime and improve public safety.

The funding, announced by Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber and Chief Constable Jason Hogg, has been awarded through the latest round of the Community Fund.

A total of 36 organisations across the Thames Valley will benefit from the scheme, which supports community and voluntary projects focused on crime prevention and safety.

Matthew Barber, Police and Crime Commissioner, said: "The volume and quality of applications received demonstrates the incredible work taking place within our communities to prevent crime and improve public safety.

"The organisations receiving funding are delivering practical projects that make a real difference, whether through trauma-informed support for victims of crime, enhanced mentoring opportunities for young people, or initiatives to tackle anti-social behaviour, including the installation of CCTV cameras.

"I am pleased that we are able to invest in these projects and support the dedicated organisations helping to build stronger and safer communities across the Thames Valley."

The fund is financed through the sale of items seized from criminals that cannot be returned to their rightful owners.

A total of 361 applications were submitted, requesting more than £2.5 million in funding.

After a competitive assessment process, grants ranging from £1,371 to £10,000 were awarded.

Chief Constable Jason Hogg said: "Alongside the Police and Crime Commissioner, I am pleased to award over £200,000 of funding to 36 voluntary and community groups in the second round of this year’s Community Fund.

"This funding supports community and voluntary organisations to run projects that play an important role in preventing crime and protecting our communities.

"I look forward to meeting successful applicants at our presentation event next month."

Hosted by the Police and Crime Commissioner and Chief Constable, the presentation event will take place in Milton Keynes on Thursday, November 26.

The Community Fund is a biannual scheme that supports groups working toward the objectives of the PCC’s Police and Criminal Justice Plan.
