A man who threw a brick at and urinated on an elephant statue created for a hospice fundraising appeal has been jailed for 16 weeks.

Faisal Mohammed, 31, was caught on CCTV damaging the artwork near The Curve in William Street, Slough, in the early hours of July 18.

The elephant formed part of Thames Hospice's Trunks Across the Thames trail, which saw 30 decorated sculptures displayed across Slough, Eton and Windsor.

Mohammed, of no fixed address, admitted criminal damage and outraging public decency at Slough Magistrates' Court.

Repairing the statue could have cost £2,000, although hospice volunteers fixed it free of charge.

He also admitted assaulting a police officer and causing damage by spitting in a police van.

Mohammed was handed a five-year criminal behaviour order, ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge and appeared via video link from HMP Brixton.

He is already serving 26 months in prison.
