Join Slough's councillors this Saturday in cleaning up the town.

Slough Borough Council is carrying out a town-wide clean up as part of the Great British Spring Clean national campaign.

The council is inviting community groups, residents and businesses to join councillors, officers and partner organisations to form a volunteer army of litter heroes.

Events previously due to take place last weekend were cancelled due to the snow and will be rescheduled.

But it will be 'all systems go' over the next two weekends.

This Saturday ward councillors James Swindlehurst and Nora Holledge will be at Cippenham Community Centre car park in Earls Lane from 11am to 12.30pm leading teams of litter pickers. Come and join them. More information is available from community officer Nahid Moghul on 01753 875501 or email nahid.moghul@slough.gov.uk

Or you can join councillors Preston Brooker, Mandeep Rana, Amarpreet S Dhaliwal, Ted Plenty and Michael Holledge at Langley Memorial Park, Langley Road between 10am and 1pm. For more information contact Esther Masters, community project officer on 01753 477355 or email esther.masters@slough.gov.uk

The following week on Saturday, March 17 ward councillors Brooker, Rana and Holledge will be at the central park area off James Meadow at Langley Woods Estate to lead another own litter pick.

All volunteers are reminded to wear appropriate clothes and footwear.

Councillor Rob Anderson, cabinet member for environment and leisure, said: “Litter is a growing problem in Slough and we need to take immediate action to tackle it.

“We are working hard to encourage people to change their behaviour by raising awareness and mobilising communities through exciting and engaging campaigns like the Great British Spring Clean.

“Keeping Slough tidy doesn’t stop here. If anyone knows of a location in the town that is badly affected by litter, please report it to us so we can arrange for it to be cleaned up.”

To report litter please fill in the street cleaning form at http://www.slough.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/report-bins-and-waste-related-issues.aspx, drop into a MyCouncil office in person or call 01753 475111 option 4.
