FREEZING conditions forced the entire non-league football programme to be postponed last weekend.

Sub-zero temperatures after dark and a degree or two above freezing during daytime left Southern, Combined and Hellenic League officials little option but to decide on a blanket call-off.

And despite conditions improving marginally, the chances of Saturday's games going ahead appear slim at best.

"Hopefully the weather will settle down a bit so we can get a game on," said Beaconsfield SYCOB boss Byron Walton.

"The good news is we've managed to get a couple back from injury that probably wouldn't have played otherwise." The Rams are due to host Uxbridge on Saturday (3pm) in a month that Walton insists will define the club's season.

"This month will make or break where we are going to finish this season.

"Hopefully we can stay where we are and cement our place in the play-offs." However, Walton turned up the heat at a snowy Holloways Park by putting in a seven-day approach for Marlow midfielder Ashleigh James and confirming striker Adam Bernard is set to make his eagerly anticipated return.

He also added that ex-Slough Town forward Charlie Mpi will remain a Ram for the forseeable future.

Walton continued: "We've put in a seven-day approach for Ashleigh James and we'll speak to him on Friday.

"We've received an approach from Thatcham Town for Charlie Mpi but he wants to stay until the end of the season.

"He's been playing really well and scoring plenty of goals lately.

"Adam Bernard is back from Germany next month. He's itching to get back involved and we've missed him a bit."
