SLOUGH Town FC won a pulsating encounter against Aylesbury United 5-3 at Holloways Park on Saturday.

Rebels joint-boss Jon Underwood was in a bullish mood ahead of the fixture, claiming his side now go into games expecting to win.

And his confidence was not misplaced, with Slough eventually getting the better of The Ducks and move into third place in Division One Central.

Jamie McClurg, Scott Harris and substitute Johnnie Dyer all scored while a late Edward Smith brace secured the points.

Warren Harris was named Player of the Month for January with 33.3 per cent of the votes. The Rebels midfielder has been rewarded for a string of good performances, with goals against Marlow and Chalfont St Peter.

In the only other fixture to beat the weather, Burnham FC were beaten 4-2 at St Neots Town in the Southern Premier, leaving boss Rob Mallinson without a win since taking over from Martin Stone last month.

Blues were two goals behind before Lee Togwell reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time, and it was 4-1 when Nikke Kabamba netted in the final minute.

Football was decimated by the floods on Saturday as torrential rain continues to fall with Maidenhead United, Beaconsfield SYCOB and Holyport unable to play, while Windsor FC’s clash at Farnham Town was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Stag Meadow club are due to travel to Binfield in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy semi-finals on tonight (Monday, 7.45pm ko).

The pick of the action in the East Berkshire League saw Iver FC beat Huntercombe 4-2 to reach the last four of the Slough Town Senior Cup.

On Sunday, Thames Valley League Premier Division leaders Real Milan were thrashed 5-0 by AFC Phoenix at Burnham Grammar School.

Windsor RFC returned from an enforced break to win 31-11 at Reading, leaving them third in South West One East. Maidenhead remain in sixth position despite a 23-14 home defeat against Grove.

Darran Brown instigated his second derby win as head coach of Slough RFC on Saturday when Greenies narrowly beat Phoenix 15-13 at Tamblyn Fields.

Brown says his side need at least two more wins this season to secure their position in Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier. Phoenix remain third from bottom.

Drifters and Farnham Royal saw fixtures against Wallingford and Littlemore postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Unfortunately for Slough Jets, they could not blame the weather for defeats to Sheffield Steeldogs and Basingstoke Bison over the weekend.

Jets were out-fought 7-3 by Sheffield at The Hangar on Saturday and then lost 7-2 at Basingstoke on Sunday, leaving them ninth in the English Premier Ice Hockey League.

The 2014 Slough RFC mini’s festival has been moved back to Sunday, April 6 due to all the recent rain.
