HUNTERCOMBE FC boss John Brennan believes his side’s desire to win makes them contenders for the East Berkshire Premier Division title this season.

Brennan re-established Huntercombe in the summer after a short spell as player-coach at newly-formed Windsor FC Reserves.

He told the Observer that The Steamteam, runners-up in Division One last year, are not in the top flight just to make up the numbers.

“We want to try and push to win the Premier,” Brennan said. “I will not settle for anything less and I don’t think the lads will either.

“They’re all winners and that’s one of the reasons why we left Windsor. I want to prove a couple of people wrong and we always want to move forward.

“I don’t look at what’s in the division but rather at where we can do better internally. I’ve got tunnel vision toward improving and winning, and I won’t settle for anything less every game we go into.

“I’ve got faith in the boys. Ability wise I think we’re the best side about, but there are no gimmies in the Premier this year.

“I want all the lads to do well because I wouldn’t trade anyone, and hopefully they can prove me right.” Brennan has added Ben White and Wayne Elliot to his squad, and Huntercombe get the new season under way at home to Slough Heating on September 6 (2pm ko).
