SLOUGH Town’s play-off destiny remains in their own hands despite a 3-0 defeat at Kettering Town on Saturday.

Rebels held on to fourth spot in the Southern Premier table after losing for the second successive time away from home.

It means Slough must pick up points over the Easter weekend in order to secure a top-five finish, with Rebels due to host relegation-threatened Cirencester Town this Friday before travelling to 10th-placed Chesham United next Monday (both 3pm ko).

Jon Underwood and Neil Baker’s men were left to rue a glut of misses chances in the first half against Kettering, who went on to net three times after the break.

The home side threatened first when Liam Canavan tested Shaun Rowley from outside the box.

But Slough began to take control as James Dobson sent a free-kick over the bar, Lee Togwell fired wide from distance and Gary Mulligan volleyed over from a corner.

The visitors piled on the pressure as half-time approached but Nathan Smart stabbed wide from Dobson’s flag-kick, Guy Hollis headed into the side netting from another corner and Liam Enver-Marum’s strike was pushed behind by Paul White.

However, it was Kettering who eventually broke the deadlock seven minutes after the interval.

Rowley managed to save a Dominic Langdon effort, but Rebels’ keeper could do little to keep out James Brighton’s looping header from a long throw-in with 52 minutes gone.

Rowley’s afternoon soon got busier as he parried a long-ranger from Canavan around the post.

However, from the resulting corner, the same Kettering player smashed the ball home for a 2-0 lead in the 61st minute.

Slough had a lucky escape moments later when Rene Howe’s header struck the crossbar.

The visitors almost pulled one back with 15 minutes to go when Simon Dunn volleyed wide, but Kettering eased any nerves when Howe curled a shot past Rowley in injury time to clinch all three points.

Slough have now lost two of their last three league games – both of them away from home – going into Saturday’s crucial fixture against Cirencester at Arbour Park.

Windsor FC had no such problems on the road after winning 3-1 at struggling Badshot League in the Combined Counties Premier on Saturday.

Mick Woodham’s men took a 14th-minute lead through Barry Dunbar, only for Badshot’s Ainsley Everett to equalise in first-half stoppage time.

But Windsor showed plenty of patience before regaining the lead in the 85th minute from a Rob Lazarczuk penalty.

The visitors grabbed a third in injury-time through striker Nadir Shafi to secure their second victory in three league games.

Windsor, now 12th in the table, host North Greenford United at Stag Meadow this Saturday (3pm) before travelling to Walton & Hersham on Monday (11.30am).

Maidenhead United moved five points clear at the top of National League South with a 2-1 home win over East Thurrock United at York Road on Saturday.

The victory, coupled with Ebbsfleet United’s draw at Truro City, puts Alan Devonshire’s Magpies in pole position in the title race.

Striker Dave Tarpey put Maidenhead in front in the 36th minute when he robbed Marvin Ekipeta before firing home his 42nd league goal of the season.

East Thurrock equalised from Ben Wood’s stunning volley early in the second half, but Jack Parkinson netted his third goal in four games from a Sean Marks assist soon after to restore Magpies’ two-goal advantage they would not let slip.

It was Maidenhead’s seventh victory in a row and came in front of an 1,134-strong crowd at York Road.

Devonshire’s men host Concord Rangers this Friday (3pm) then go to Truro City on Monday (3pm).

Burnham FC look to have avoided the drop from the Hellenic Premier without playing a fixture last weekend.

Henley Town have finished bottom of the table after Saturday’s 9-0 mauling to champions Thame United.

That means Blues, who are one off the bottom with three more points, cannot be relegated regardless of the outcome of their final match of the campaign away to Tuffley Rovers this Saturday (3pm).
