BURNHAM reached the Hellenic League Supplementary Cup final this season after a 1-0 win against Highworth Town on Monday.

A goal from Calvin Morgan was the difference between the two sides in the semi-final tie at The Gore on Monday.

The Blues manager Paul Shone told the Observer: “On the back of the win last weekend, it was a good game to go into. It was one we were not fancied to win because Highworth are a strong outfit that will finish third or fourth in the league.

“Highworth have been together for a long time and have more experienced players, but we dominated on the night.

“I don’t recall a meaningful save from our keeper. We dominated the match and were deserved winners.

“We scored very late on so there was no way back for Highworth.”

Burnham will face Flackwell Heath in the final at The Playing Fields (Ardley United) on Saturday, May 5.

Shone commented: “We will look to finish strong and take that form into the cup final and next season, to keep the club going in the right direction.

“That’s football, it can throw up a tie against your previous club but I’m looking forward to it regardless because it’s a cup final.

“It’s a final and we want to win, so hopefully we can take form and momentum into the game.

“Maybe Flackwell have inconsistencies but they’re a young side as well and maybe it’s a learning curve for some moving forward.

“Flackwell are finishing the season a bit hit and miss but anything can happen in a one-off game of football.

“Would I swap potential relegation for a cup final, 100 per-cent, but it’s about what we have to build on going forward. It breeds success and a winning mentality at the club and that’s what we are looking to do.

"If we can get the win it would be a strong positive for us mentally and show people what we're looking to do."

Burnham will finish bottom in the Hellenic Premier Division after a 3-1 defeat away at Tuffley Rovers on Thursday but must wait to have relegation confirmed by The Football Association.

The Blues complete their league season with a visit to The Gore from Wantage Town this Saturday (3pm).
