GEORGE Green Juniors held their presentation night at the Polish Club in what turned out to be a fantastic evening for those involved.

The awards were handed out by Welsh international Chris Mepham, who plays club football for Brentford in the Championship.

George Green gave trophies to all players involved in the club plus three major awards for each side.

Stephen Hale is club secretary and thanked the club for all their hard work this season, which includes many firsts.

There was a first-ever Fun Day to raise funds for a defibrillator for the whole community, a football tour to Krakow in Poland, plus a McDonald’s sponsored Fun Day that is being held in September along with a quiz night.

The teams had mixed success during the season from the under-13s (U13s) winning a Futsal tournament at their first attempt and the U12s losing in the Berks & Bucks Cup final.

George Green Juniors U16 Blacks also won their respective league.

The club is also proud to announce that from next season, and due to funding received from The Football Association through their Wildcats scheme held at Wexham School on a Friday evening, they will have a girls U9 team.

There is also a strong possibility of a girls U7 team playing matches next season.

Funding has also been awarded to George Green Juniors from the Football Foundation Grow The Game Scheme to enable girls football to grow.

Lionesses star Danielle Carter has praised the club and Grow the Game following the grant of £3,000 from The FA.

Carter said: “I would like to congratulate George Green Juniors FC on working with the Football Foundation and Berks & Bucks FA to secure a Grow the Game grant.

"Playing in an all-female team from a young age was key to my development, so I'm delighted that there will be more opportunities for women and girls in the local area.

"I wish George Green Juniors Wildcats good luck during their debut season!”

Hale said: “George Green Juniors are extremely pleased to be awarded funding from the Football Foundation to assist and develop girls football in the local area.

"Girls football is becoming more and more popular and I'm looking forward to promoting this further.”

The club were very proud to hand Rob Paris Clubman of the Year.

Paris does so much for the club. He runs the website, has run two teams even though he has no child in either, and is always there to offer support and advice to parents and players alike.

He builds morale and promotes the club’s ethos in regards to players development.

Paris was very influential in Thomas Dickson Peters early career, which saw change him from a defender into a forward.

That reaped the rewards of Peters signing a two-year scholarship at Championship side Norwich City.
