SLOUGH Town opened their pre-season campaign with a 4-2 win against Metropolitan Police at Arbour Park on Tuesday.

Met Police took the lead early on but forward Bradley Clayton, on trial from Brentford, levelled the scores before the half-time interval.

A goal from Lee Togwell put The Rebels in front on 74 minutes, but the visitors equalised straight from the re-start.

Slough secured the win thanks to goals from Togwell and Perry Coles inside the last five minutes.

The Rebels joint-manager Jon Underwood told the Observer: “We weren’t sure how Met Police would be because they’re a new team, but they were really competitive and that was exactly what we needed.

“We’ve got seven friendlies and don’t want to waste any of them with games that are slow-paced. At times it was a little bit slower but it was a competitive match and, for a first game, it was exactly what we needed.

“The majority of the squad played 45 minutes but Sean Fraser and Guy Hollis got the whole 90 in and at this stage it’s just about getting that rustiness out of the legs.

“The lads have worked hard in three training sessions but they all love to play football and to get them back out on the pitch again, especially here at Arbour Park was good for us.

“It was a really worthwhile exercise and you’re always looking to avoid injuries so it’s a positive that we all got through it. Everyone looked fit and sharp at this early stage in pre-season.”

He continued: “The players all came back really fit and just like they did last year. There are no surprises there because they look after themselves.

“We are where we hoped we would be and the squad is strong in terms of our options and the depth of it.

“We had two trialists to look at and it was good to see them in a game situation, so we’re really pleased with where we are.

“Bradley took his goal well and both he and Bilal Sayoud have trained well with us. They’ve both got a pro background and good pedigree.”
