SLOUGH Town suffered their first loss in pre-season this summer after a 3-2 defeat against Reading under-23s at Arbour Park on Saturday.

James Dobson is well-known for scoring fantastic goals and he gave The Rebels the lead from 35-yards on 19 minutes.

Reading levelled eight minutes later when Slough defender Josh Jackman failed to clear the ball off the line after it bounced around in the box from a corner.

The Rebels restored their lead on the hour mark as Harrison Gilkes found the back of the net after a scramble in the box.

The goal came after the initial cross from Chris Flood came back off the frame of the goal.

Reading fought back again and equalised with a moment Slough keeper Jack Turner will not want to remember.

He could not hold a free-kick from Joel Rollinson and was unable to keep the ball out.

Turner was again unable to deny Rollinson after he was played in to score the winning goal on 74 minutes.

Slough joint-manager Neil Baker told the Observer: “For the first hour we were delighted and the better side in the first 45 minutes. We had the better chances and should have gone in at half-time in front.

“We were not as happy with the second 45 minutes. We started okay and went 2-1 up in the first 15 minutes, but once Jack Turner had let in their second goal it took a little bit out of us.

“We didn’t press as a team or work as hard as we should have done because numerous players came on for second 45 minutes.

“Although it was hot, the lads had done it in the first half and we just feel that the players that came on didn’t do the same.”

The Rebels continue their pre-season campaign with a short trip to Southern Premier Division club Staines Town this Saturday (3pm).

Slough then return to Arbour Park for the visit of Boreham Wood next Tuesday (7.45pm).
