SLOUGH Town joint-manager Neil Baker was pleased his side produced a dominant performance to beat Kingstonian 3-1 at Arbour Park on Tuesday.

Goals in the first half from Chris Flood and Josh Jackman gave the Rebels a clear lead at the half-time interval following an impressive 45-minute display.

Kingstonian pulled a goal back as Slough made changes in the second period of the friendly, but Ben Harris secured the win with a header in the final seconds.

Baker told the Observer: “I’m pleased because I wasn’t so happy about the last 30 minutes in the second half against Reading Under-23s. We felt we didn’t work as hard as we probably needed to for a pre-season game on Saturday.

“We were very dominant in the first half in midweek and could have been quite a few goals ahead if we’re honest.

“We changed shape in the second half purely just to get players on the pitch and minutes under their belts.

“In a normal game we would not do that but, when you’ve got four forwards that you need to try and get minutes into, the easiest way is to play a diamond.

“Kingstonian probably got at us for 20 minutes in the second half, but we should have had a hatful if we’re brutally honest.

“I’m really pleased and there were some good performances out there. The results makes no difference, it could have been 3-1, 3-3 or 6-1, but there were no real problems, or injuries, and some good performances.”

Baker continued: “Chris and Perry Coles looked really good together. They caused them all sorts of problems because their movement was good and their link-up play was excellent.

“We caused them loads of problems, probably throughout the game, but more so in the first half and that’s pleasing.

“Ben finished the game with the last touch and it was a brilliant header. We have seen him do that a few times so we’ve got four good forwards that can put the ball in the back of the net.

"When you are in pre-season you just want to come through without any injuries and plenty of minutes in the tank, and a lot of the lads have got what we wanted on Tuesday."

Slough continue their pre-season preparations with a short trip to Southern Premier Division club Staines Town this Saturday (3pm) where Warren Harris, Guy Hollis and Simon Dunn could all return to the squad.

However, central defender Matt Day has been released following a four-month spell at the club in which he made 11 appearances and helped The Rebels to win promotion via the play-offs last season.
