OVER 400 football supporters took part in a 26-mile walk to Wembley Stadium to raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK.

The March For Men walk began in four different locations; St Albans (Watford), West Ham, Millwall and Sutton United Football Clubs.

Gary Reeves was among those walking and the former Burnham Chairman took on the route from Sutton United to Wembley via AFC Wimbledon, Harlequins, Twickenham and Brentford.

Runners were greeted at Wembley Stadium by a brass band and gold medals were presented by Sir Geoff Hurst and Ray Clemence, before a buffet in the Bobby Moore Suite.

Reeves said: “It was a fantastic and touching experience, and very close to my heart after what I’ve been through with the disease myself.

“To be able to unite and walk with fellow football fans for this cause was one of the greatest things that I’ve ever done.

“The 26 miles was hard but it went reasonably quick with chatting and banter with others particularly Coleman Hanrahan, a local man from Slough who I met on the walk.

“Coleman and I stayed together for the whole walk and crossed the line together.

“The band en route was amazing as they kept popping up everywhere.”

He added: “I personally managed to raise over £400 for the event which hopes to hit the £200,000 mark once all donations are in and that would be fantastic.

“Hopefully we can get the awareness message out there that we will beat Prostate Cancer, and future generations can be assured that we’ve done our bit.”
