STOKE Park teenage sensation Conor Gough has added to his growing reputation after helping England to a third successive victory in the Boys Home Internationals.

England finished with a 100 per-cent record after defeating Ireland, Scotland and Wales at Royal Dornoch, and have now won the Under-18 team event 17 times since 1996.

Gough, 15, and his playing partner Robin Williams saw their unbeaten run ended, but the young star kept his composure to register a 3&2 singles win as England edged the title decider with Ireland 8-7.

The turning point came when Gough - who plays off a handicap of plus three - won three holes in a row from the seventh for a lead he would hold onto for the rest of the match.

Gough and Williams won their rubber 2&1 in the 10-5 victory over Scotland on the first day. The Stoke Park ace also enjoyed a 4&2 singles success.

Against Wales on the second day, the pairing enjoyed a comprehensive 7&6 win and, despite Gough losing in the singles, England ran out 11-4 winners.

Gough is currently ranked 30th in the European amateur rankings. He said: “It was great to win the competition and really good to help England to retain the title.

"I loved playing in it and can play in it for another two years. I would love to play again and win it each time.

“I’m playing really well at the moment and having a very good year.

"I have contended at most of the events I’ve played in and I’m hoping to carry that form into the Boys Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush (August 14-19)."

He added: “I would love to become a professional golfer.

"I feel very privileged to be at Stoke Park, there are no better facilities around. The people are great and very supportive. I’m really happy to be part of the club.”
