SLOUGH Town suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at National League South basement boys East Thurrock on Saturday.

Rebels paid the price for missing a string of chances before Danilo Orsi-Dodomo grabbed a late winner for the hosts.

Slough headed into the clash as strong favourites after two wins and a draw in their previous three games.

The hosts, however, had lost all five league fixtures before kick-off and were desperate to turn their fortunes around.

But Rebels joint-boss Neil Baker had warned that East Thurrock were a better side than their results suggested – and so it proved.

“Outside of the first 20 minutes, it was a very poor performance from our lads, especially going forward,” he admitted.

“Whilst I’m bitterly disappointed, realism has kicked in.

“We are competing well, creating chances, and should have more points than we do. We’re only one point off sixth place – the league is so tight because it is so competitive.”

Slough burst out of the traps at Rookery Hill with Warren Harris testing East Thurrock keeper Jack Giddens.

Chris Flood then missed the target when clean through on goal before George Wells was denied by Giddens, with the follow-up from Manny Williams blocked by an opponent.

Chances continued to come for the visitors with Williams smacking the crossbar from a Simon Dunn delivery and Warren Harris seeing an effort blocked.

They were costly misses as East Thurrock began to see more of the ball with Alfie Egan heading wide before the break and returning striker Sam Higgins also missing the target after the restart.

Rebels remained a threat with Giddens denying Dunn then making a smart save to keep out Josh Jackman’s effort.

Giddens came to East Thurrock’s rescue yet again by thwarting Flood after goof work from Louis Soares, while substitute Perry Coles went close when his shot deflected narrowly over the bar.

But the decisive moment came in the 78th minute when the hosts finally broke the deadlock.

East Thurrock launched a counter-attack and a final pass over the top sent Orsi-Dodomo away before the striker rounded Jack Turner and tucked the ball home.

It was a hammer blow for Rebels who relied on a fine Turner save to deny Egan at the death and prevent the home side for adding a second.

Rebels joint-boss Jon Underwood admitted: “There was nothing unlucky about the defeat, too many players simply weren’t good enough on the day.

“We’re disappointed that we let down an excellent travelling support”.

Slough were due to host Dulwich Hamlet on Monday and travel to Chelmsford City this Saturday (3pm).

Slough: Turner, Jackman, Wells, Hollis, Nisbet, Togwell, Davies, Dunn (Dobson), Williams (Coles), Flood, Harris (Soares). Subs not used: Fraser, Togwell.

Windsor FC

Windsor FC were knocked out of the FA Cup after a heavy 5-0 defeat at Cirencester Town in the preliminary round on Saturday.

Hellenic Premier side Windsor faced a tough task away to Cirencester from the higher Southern League.

And the difference showed on the day with Alan Griffin giving the hosts a first-minute lead from which they never looked back.

Windsor kept things tight from there, only to concede a second four minutes before half-time scored by Ben Whitehead with Aidan Bennett making it 3-0 with 20 minutes to go.

There was still time for Whitehead to notch his second of the day in the 76th minute before Antonio Gerrish rubbed salt into Windsor wounds with a five goal in the 85th minute.

Windsor are due to host Virginia Water today and are without a fixture this weekend.
