BURNHAM endured a weekend of mixed fortunes as they progressed in the FA Cup preliminary round with a fine 4-2 victory at Ardley United on Saturday, only to then go down 4-1 at home to Chalvey Sports in Division One East on Monday.

The Blues took the lead courtesy of Aiden Higgs’ cool finish at Ardley, and after having a penalty saved, they doubled their advantage two minutes into the second half when Daniel Fosu netted.

A brilliant finish from Higgs made it 3-0, but the hosts hit back with a brace from substitute Greg Hackett.

However, the Blues weathered the storm and sealed their place in the next round with a calm finish from Lucas Sinclair.

Burnham will host Bury Town in the first qualifying round on Saturday, September 8.

While they enjoyed success in the cup, Burnham were brought back down to earth at home to early-season table-toppers Chalvey Sports on Monday.

Goals from Jason Marney, Levi Thackeray, Bryan Taylor and Lawrie Toombs did the damage for Chalvey, with substitute Kyle Mifsud netting the consolation for the home side.

Toombs was also on the scoresheet for Chalvey Sports in their 3-3 draw against Thame Rangers on Saturday, with Jai Hill and Tom Williams also netting to help the overturn a 2-0 half-time deficit.

Patrick Buston grabbed a double for Thame, with Miles Baxter also on target.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Burnham host Wokingham & Emmbrook, while Chalvey Sports travel to Abingdon Town (both 3pm).

Chalvey Sports then welcome Wallingford Town to Arbour Park on Tuesday (7.45pm), while Holyport – who were without a game last weekend – are at home to Milton United.

‘Port travel to Ardley United in the FA Vase tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).

In Division Two East, Langley picked up a point with a 2-2 draw at Virginia Water Development, Ben Jones bagging a brace for the home side.

Langley host Wallingford Town Reserves tomorrow (3pm).

Prince Massaquoi gave Taplow United a half-time lead, but an 81st-minute equaliser from Old Bradwell United’s Aaron Murray meant the two sides shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Taplow United visit Penn & Tylers Green Development tomorrow.
