SLOUGH captain Max Miles believes the Greenies pulled together to beat Littlemore 33-15 and record a first win this season in Southern Counties North.

The Greenies won in Oxford thanks to tries from Rhys Amos, Kinter Zvokunzwa, Joe Sole and Aman Grewal, while Miles was on target with all four conversion attempts.

Miles told the Observer: “It was nice to get that first win on the board. Though we weren’t at our best we pulled together and ground out the result.

“We started well again in the first 10-15 minutes and managed to score a couple of tries, but then we went to sleep and lost our shape and composure.

“It’s only our second game coming into this league and something to work on and find a solution to. To be down by a point at half-time was baffling really and a strange position.”

He added: “We tried to change up the gameplan slightly in the second-half and managed to score 19 points. To score that many unanswered points and for our defence not to concede is a real positive.”

Slough return to action with an all-Buckinghamshire derby match against Marlow on Saturday 29th September, and Miles explained these are the games to get excited about.

He said: “We’ve no game this weekend and that will help those carrying knocks to recover. We have four big training sessions to get ready for Marlow, who are flying high after a couple of bonus-point wins.

“Any derby match is tough but Marlow are completely sky high in terms of confidence at the moment. We’ve got to find a way to stop them from scoring and put a spanner in the works.

“Every derby game is one people look forward to and one you look out for when the fixtures come out. It’s the sort of game that you want to play in and be around.

“One of the reasons we wanted to win promotion last season is because we’re excited to play in these kind of derby matches.

“We can take confidence from the way we played in the second-half against High Wycombe and at times against Littlemore last weekend.”
