THE newly-formed Slough Sirens have got their season under way with a 3-2 home win against Oxford Midnight Stars.

Slough led at the end of the first period thanks to a well-taken goal from Jodie Attrill, with assists going to Lauren Bradburn and Peri Edmiston.

However, Oxford came out flying at the start of the second period and rattled in two quickfire goals that were less than 30 seconds apart. Katerina Lossnitzer was on hand to fire in both goals for the visitors.

The Sirens were back on level terms midway through the middle period with Edmiston poking the puck home from close range after some meat passing with Attrill.

The early stages of the final period was end-to-end with both netminders called into action to make big saves and keep the score level.

The breakthrough came in the 50th minute after some great pressure from Slough. Elise Willoughby fought hard to win the puck in the corner and fed Attrill, and she passed to player-of-the-match Aniko Gaal to calmly slot into the top corner.

Oxford pushed forward in search of an equaliser inside the final 10 minutes but the Sirens defence stood firm to earn a first win this season.

The Sirens welcome Peterborough Penguins to the Slough Ice Arena on Sunday 14th October (6pm).
