MERV Lloyd has opened his heart on the decision to step down as first team manager at Chalvey Sports last Friday.

Lloyd took the club into the Hellenic League back in 2016 and won back-to-back Division Two East titles before guiding the Stabmonks to fifth position in Division One East this season.

However, he feels let down by people at the football club and explained he has not parted Chalvey by his own choice.

Lloyd told the Observer: “I feel let down but these things happen in football and you’ve got to move on. The club has ideas that I don’t agree with.

“I’ve not parted by choice and still had work to do there this season, so it feels like unfinished business.

“I’m not happy with what has happened and I will not forget how I’ve been treated. The club has soaked up that little bit of experience I have then asked me to leave.

“I don’t forget how people treat me and they will get treated the same in return, but there’s no major problem for me and I’ll carry on.

“I know what the club is doing to move forward but be careful what you wish for because you might just get it.

“I wanted to bide my time there and just get by this season but some people have suggested I wasn’t happy there.

“I’ve spoke to certain people at the club and told them exactly how I feel but I can’t do anything about that now.

“I might be a little abrupt but I’m not going to change, and if you’re going to step into my shoes then make sure they fit.”

“I’ve not wasted two years and enjoyed it, but the club has other ideas about what they want to do now.

He continued: “I’ve not done bad and left the club in a better position than when I arrived, so my record speaks for itself.

“Recent results haven’t been good and could have been better but we’ve not done badly either.

“We’ve won back-to-back league titles so I don’t know what else the club wanted. I don’t know what else the club was hoping for without spending money on players.

“The club isn’t structured well enough to go up in the league unless something sensational happens like they find a pot of gold.

“I don’t see the point in playing just one player at this level, like a goal scorer. You’re better off looking after the whole group.”

“Keeping all the guys together is their problem now, but I’m not the person to start jumping up and down and say things."

Lloyd explained has had offered for a quick return to work but he is in no rush to get back into the dugout.

He said: "I've spoken to a couple of clubs and their offers were decent and suitable, but it's a little too soon. I'm not desperate and am in no rush.

"It doesn't matter to me whether it's next week or next year. There are things in the pipeline but we will sit down and have a little chat.

"I'll work again when the times suits me and I will make sure that I don't put myself in this situation again.

"I will leave it a few weeks and think things over but will only go somewhere for the right reasons."
