CHALVEY Sports Chairman Scott Young insists there has been no great drama or big fall out at the club despite the resignation of Merv Lloyd as manager.

Lloyd led the Stabmonks to consecutive Hellenic Division Two East titles, but stood down last Friday claiming he feels let down by some people at the club.

However, Young believes it was an amicable situation and explained he will always have great respect for Lloyd.

He told the Observer: “Merv has just decided to stand down but there has been no great drama or fall out. We just had a normal and amicable conversation and that’s all there is to say.

“We have left on good terms and I hope Merv feels the same way because he’s a gentleman.

“There’s nothing extra ordinary about it, no great stories or big fall out.

“Merv has been the most successful manager in our recent history and he deserves a great deal of credit for what he has achieved.

“We had some great times together and there has been a lot of firsts for the club as well.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Merv, I always have done and always will do.”

Young continued: “We have no real plans to appoint someone new and no-one has approached us to take over.

“Steve Quelch will deal with first team affairs until we decided what to do. He brings a great deal of local football knowledge and coaching qualifications, and it looks like Tony Thompson will be involved too.”

He added: "We hope to progress the club but are finding the step up a massive challenge. It's not more than we expected but the quality of players is better.

"You get punished for small mistakes because you're playing against a higher standard.

"We've had an up and down season so far, including a bit of a defeat against Burnham in midweek. We were punished by a strong and clinical team."
