BURNHAM manager Paul Shone is pleased that his side continue to progress as a team after consecutive cup match wins this week.

The Blues made progress in the Challenge Cup after a 3-1 win away at Yateley United from Division Two West on Saturday.

Goals from Ryan Tackley and Aiden Higgs gave the visitors a clear heading into the break at the Sean Devereux Park.

Yateley pulled one back after half-time through Myles White, before Higgs struck again to secure victory for Burnham.

Shone told the Observer: “It’s a difficult place to go in terms of the pitch isn’t in great condition. It hampered the way we wanted to play but the boys found a way of getting the result.

“It’s pleasing to progress in the cup with a good performance from our team.”

Burnham then made progress in the Supplementary Cup after a 5-2 win against Chalvey Sports at The Gore on Tuesday.

Harry Pearse scored twice in the victory with further goals from Higgs, Daniel Fosu and Alfie Lucas.

Shone commented: “It was a very good win and we played some excellent football at times, which was in contrast to the poor performance we put in against Chalvey earlier this season.

“Chalvey scored against the run of play, but we were in control of possession and missed guilt-edge chances to take the lead.

“We were totally dominant and definitely worthy winners of the contest.

“It’s pleasing to keep on progressing as a team and good to score five goals again.”

He added: “We’ve been rotating players due to availability and injury, so the whole squad has come into it with a couple of new signings that have added quality.

“It’s great in a way that we’re playing cup games in midweek because it keeps us ticking over. We’re in every competition to win it, and the boys would rather play than train.

“Winning breeds winning and good habits, and the boys are starting to take on board what we want from them.”

Burnham turn their attention toward the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy and a second round tie away at Division One East rivals Penn & Tylers Green this Saturday (3pm).

Shone said: “The Berks & Bucks Cup is a great competition and the best of the best in this area.

“Penn & Tylers Green are doing well in the league but I’m confident that, if we can go there and apply ourselves, we will come away with the win.”

The Blues then host Chinnor in the Subsidiary Cup on Tuesday.
