BURNHAM manager Paul Shone has explained it was only a matter of time before his side clicked into gear after a run of five wins in cup competitions.

The Blues completed the five-timer with a 5-0 win away at Penn & Tylers Green in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy on Saturday and a 6-1 victory over Chinnor at home in the Hellenic Subsidiary Cup on Tuesday.

Shone told the Observer: “You can only beat what’s put in front of you and the boys are doing that.

“It was only a matter of time before we clicked into gear because we’ve been gelling and getting to know one another.

“It’s great to score goals and not conceded many as well, so I couldn’t be happier with the start we’ve made.

“There will be teams out there wanting to shot us down because of the run we’ve been on, so we will have to be prepared for that as well.”

Burnham return to action in Division One East with a visit to The Gore from Didcot Town Development this Saturday (3pm), and Shone expects his side to take their cup form into the league.

He said: “I’ve spoken to a couple of managers that have already played them and found out Didcot are a young side. They like to get the ball down and play, and that will suit us as well.

“If we can apply ourselves like we have done in recent weeks then I see no reason why we can’t come away with the three points.

“Everyone has been stepping up to the plate when given the chance, so I expect us to take our cup form into the league.

“We need to make The Gore a fortress and make sure teams take nothing from us at home.”

Burnham took a clear lead into the break against Chinnor in midweek thanks to a George Weller brace plus a goal from Ramel Sutherland.

The home team secured the win after half-time with an Aiden Higgs brace plus a second Sutherland goal, before Chinnor pulled one back late on.

Shone commented: “It was very comfortable and a one-sided game for us really so I’m very pleased.

“Winning breeds winning and good habits get better.

“It’s another win and we tick-off another cup match.”

Burnham continued to make progress in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy this season after a 5-0 win away at Penn & Tylers Green on Saturday.

The Blues took a clear lead into the break in the second round tie at French School Meadows thanks to goals from George Weller, Harry Pearce and Bradley Holland.

The visitors secured the after half-time with goals from Ryan Tackley and Dan Molloy.

Shone commented: "It was another good performance and another one-sided game. It was a bit patchy at times but a comfortable win again, which is pleasing.

"In truth, I expected better from Penn because they're normally a stronger side.

"We were far better than them on the day and it was a comfortable win, including a wonder goal from George."
