BINFIELD manager Roger Herridge was full of praise for his team after seeing them overcome a horrendous trip to Lydney by returning with a 2-0 Hellenic League Premier Division victory, writes Dave Wright.

He and his players were stuck for a long time on the M4 due to it being closed following a serious accident, forcing the kick-off to be delayed until 4.15pm.

But the Moles went on to win with Ian Davies scoring in the 58th minute and Josh Howell with a little less than a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

“At the best of times, Lydney is a tough place to go to, but it was even worse on Saturday due to the delayed journey,” said Herridge, pictured above.

“This is one of the hardest places to go away and win.

“To make matters worse, the game was played in a gale-force wind, so every credit to the team. To a man, the lads were fantastic.”

Binfield are back on the M4 this coming Saturday, as they head to south Gloucestershire to face Hellenic League Division One West side Thornbury Town in the second round of the Bluefin Sports Cup (3pm).

EVERSLEY & California are out of the FA Vase after losing 1-0 at home to Wessex League side Horndean on Saturday.

Last Tuesday, they had beaten Bagshot 3-0 in the Combined Counties League.

Mo Davies opened the scoring in the 65th minute and Joe Pantony added the second five minutes later with an own goal completing the scoring.

The Boars, who were due to visit AFC Stoneham in the Russell-Cotes Cup last night (Tuesday), return to league action when they face rivals Sandhurst Town at Bottom Meadow this Saturday (3pm). They then host Bedfont & Feltham in the Division One Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Last weekend, Sandhurst won 3-2 away to Chessington & Hook United after twice being in arrears.

Carl Prestige, his first for the club, Tom Cooper and Greg Beckett were the men on target, all three goals coming in the second half.
