LANGLEY Hornets manager Allan McNicol has explained his side dug in deep to beat Berks County Reserves 2-1 in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

The Hornets continued to make progress in the county competition thanks to a Ryan Docherty brace in the second round tie, but NcNicol believes Langley should have won by more.

He told the Observer: “It was a good win because we had been missing a few players because of different commitments in recent weeks.

“It was the first time in a while that we have had 16 players available, and we’ve lost a couple of games which is unfortunate at this time of the season.

“We dug in deep because there was all to play for and they boys wanted to get on with their football.

“The lads wanted to play and make sure we got back to winning ways. They were under no real pressure and able to enjoy it.

“Berks County scored in the 90th minute so it wasn’t completely comfortable, but we had 80 per-cent of possession and missed a couple of sitters.

“They got a little second win and deserved their goal because they didn’t play badly, but we were under no real pressure and should have buried the game by half-time.

“We had so much pressure on them but sometimes it can only take one little mistake and a match isn’t over until the final whistle.”

Langley are targeting success in the Junior Cup this season and have been drawn away at Datchet Village from the Thames Valley League in round three on Saturday 17th November.

McNicol said: “You don’t know what you will get opposition-wise or what they’ll be like, but the lads want to progress and do well.

"It's 90 minutes of football, home or away, we want to be in these competitions so we want to go for it."
