THERE was a strong field for the East Berks Junior Stag, a 36-hole scratch competition introduced in 2003 and sponsored by Graham Foote, a past club captain and president, along with his wife Pat.

The winner was Oliver Lewis-Perkins from Mid Kent GC, the talented plus one handicapper. He shot an opening-round 69 with his level par effort leaving him one shot adrift of Callum Tibbs, also plus one, from the London Golf Club after the morning round.

However, Lewis-Perkins stepped his game up in his second round, recording a one-under-par 68 to finish one-under par (137) to win the tournament by one shot from Will Tate (+1hcp) who plays at Bearwood Lakes. Tibbs returned a one-over-par 70 in the afternoon round to finish third on 138.

The nett handicap competition was a close run affair with Patrick Lawton (11hcp) and Mackenzie Beilby (11hcp) from East Berks both returning scores of 132 for the two rounds with the former (68 and 64) coming out on top with the better afternoon score.

Third place went to four-handicapper Elliot MacGregor from Burhill GC who recorded the best round of the day of three under 66 in the afternoon for a nett 62.

There were team prizes for the best county Under 16 and U18 aggregate scores with Kent winning both competitions with totals of 447 and 415 respectively.

East Berks Seniors held their club championships with Graeme Wilson (6hcp) returning a gross 73 to finish three shots clear of the 2018 winner Jeremy Platt (4hcp).

The best nett prize was won on countback by Terry Edwards (13hcp) with a nett 67, while Kevin Parsley (17hcp) finished second with Graeme Wilson third, both returning nett 67.

The Crowthorne-based club's midweek monthly stableford was won by Jack Carling (2hcp) who returned 40 points with five birdies in the round. Runner-up with 37 points was Ken Hopkins (11hcp).

A men’s nine-hole midweek stableford competition was won by Graham Foote (20hcp), returning 17 points to beat Stewart Ashton (24hcp) on countback.

An intermediates stableford went the way of Mikaela Gamble (6hcp) with 37 points, one more than Mitchell Thomas (11hcp).

East Berks Ladies Section played for the Mauvis Mullet Trophy with captain Donna Hunt, playing off eight, continuing her fantastic form to win the silverware with 39 points. One point behind was Laura Webb (0hcp), beating Carole Hewitt (24 hcp) on countback.

The Angela Uzielli Trophy Division One was won by Joy Foster (14hcp) with 37 points from Carol Leith (11hcp) with 36 points, while

Division Two went to Elizabeth Oliver Keen (35hcp) with 36 points on countback from Celia May (22 hcp).

A ladies' nine-hole stableford competition was won by Val Taylor (40hcp) who returned 20 points to win by one point from June O'Farrell (26hcp).
