BINFIELD FC boss Roger Herridge admitted he deserved to be sent off shortly before the end of his side's 2-1 defeat by Fairford on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

Referee Chris Potter showed him a yellow card, quickly followed by a red, as he blew his top after the visitors had snatched a late winner in controversial circumstances.

He will almost certainly be fined and could receive a touchline ban as well.

Herridge became increasingly frustrated during a high-tempo game which saw the Moles lose the lead by conceding two goals in the final 15 minutes, during which Binfield skipper Sean Moore had a penalty saved.

"I was very disappointed with the performance of the referee," said the team boss. "In my opinion, he made some wrong decisions."

He felt the Moles should have been awarded an early penalty when a Fairford defender appeared to handle the ball as he lay on the ground and was convinced Moore was fouled in the build-up which led to the deciding goal.

Herridge continued: "Their (Fairford) bench was on at him (the ref) all game, but it was me he decided to send off just before the end.

"Like all managers, I get very passionate during a match and I care about my players, but when a ref makes poor decisions which ultimately cost you three points, then it is hard to take."

Herridge, however, also admits his side did not help themselves by missing a number of good scoring chances.

He commented: "They (Fairford) were a very good side. They started really well and caused us a few problems, but after the first 15 or 20 minutes, I thought we were by far the superior side. We deserved all three points.

"On another day, we will play exactly the same way and come away with all three points, but you need key decisions to go your way and they didn't."
