BUCKINGHAMSHIRE remain unbeaten in Division Two of the British Darts Organisation Inter-County Championship after an entertaining 18-18 draw with Somerset at the Wing Sports & Social Club.

The Bucks ladies team manager, Carol Hodgson, saw her B side make a strong start with a 4-2 win. The host success came from Lorraine Bowen, Dawn Seaman, Anita Daly and Rachel Egelton, who was the player-of-the-match after winning 3-0 with a good 18.79 average as well as hitting a 180.

Tony Hills is the Bucks men’s team manager and saw his B side lose 7-5. The wins came from Ricky Nathan (12 dart leg and a 180), Jamie Major (180), Dave Broome (two 180s), Kevin Locke and Liam Maughan, who was the man-of-the-match after winning 3-1 with an excellent average of 28.11 and a 180.

The scores were level at 9-9 after day one before the Bucks ladies A-team had a great contest against the visitors which was high in quality and finished 3-3.

The wins came via Jane Sobey (180), Kirsty Gibbs and Professional Darts Corporation 2019 World Championship history-maker, Fallon Sherrock. She was the player-of-the-match with an outstanding average of 30.67, which was the highest of the weekend, and won 3-0 in 17, 14 and 18 darts as well as hitting a 180.

The scores were now 12-12 going into the final round of matches and the men’s A-team opening four games were shared with Bucks wins coming from Clive Wilford and Terry Davis.

Somerset then won the next two to take control of the match, but the home team fought back brilliantly to take the next three thanks to man-of-the-match Jon Woodbridge, who won 4-0 with a superb average of 29.47 in 17, 12, 21 and 18 darts. He effort also included a 180 and a 104 finish. Wins also came from Henry Reddin and Adam Mould (180).

The visitors rallied and won the next two but the final game saw Mat Caste of Bucks hold his nerve to win 4-0 and secure and overall 18-18 draw.

Bucks remain in joint third position with Somerset after the fourth round of matches with 81 points, 12 behind the leaders. Bucks now make the trip to second-placed Gwent on January 18-19.
