TEAM A.S. Judo has become an award-winning club after its members won 176 medals in its inaugural year and a further 40 medals already in 2020, writes Rob Stevens.

Alan Scott is a former British Champion in judo. He represented Great Britain in the Youth Olympics and competed in two Junior European Championships as well as the Junior World Championships.

Scott was also a senior international before making the decision to retire from competitive judo in 2005 when he decided to teach the sport to young children in schools.

He built up a company to the point where over 1,000 young students were members including British internationals as well as Olympians on the coaching staff.

The coaching team however decided to focus more on their own training and life choices which means Scott was left to run the club on his own last year.

He decided to go down a different route and turn his business into a competition club, creating Team A.S Judo.

The team won 176 medals in 2019 and have already claimed 40 medals including 20 gold this year.

Team AS Judo recently returned from Bishops Stortford with five gold medals, two silver and two bronze. The club also had four competitors at the British Schools Championships in Sheffield.

The team has been recognised by the British Judo Association as an Elite Provider as well as winning the Grassroots Club of the Year award at the Northern Home Counties sports awards.

Scott also continues to run his own company by going into local schools and running judo classes for children aged between 4-12. He also runs weekend classes which are open to the public.
