ALAN Paris has admitted that Burnham need to be more clinical in front of goal in order to turn their improving performances into points this season.

Burnham and Fairford Town saved the scoring until the last 10 minutes in a 1-1 draw at the Cinder Lane Stadium on Saturday.

A goal from Dan Gardner gave the home side the lead on 80 minutes but Calvin Morgan rescued a point for The Blues with his strike four minutes from the final whistle.

Paris is disappointed not to have won the game and the draw leaves Burnham second from bottom in the Hellenic Premier Division table.

The Blues boss believes performances are improving but games are running out for them to climb the table and avoid relegation.

Paris told the Observer: “I’m disappointed really because we should have taken three points. Only gaining a point feels like two lost in a game we really needed to win.

“We were by far the better team and need to win games against other bottom sides to get us up the table.

“Fairford were playing for time right from the start of the first half and I could not make sense of it. They would have been happy with a 0-0 draw.

“Our new striker came off injured after 15 minutes but we still had chances and could not find the back of the net. We had some chances but were not clinical enough in front of goal.

“We’ve got to be more clinical in front of goal, that’s our downside at the moment. We’ve got to take the weight off our defence and start to take our chances.

“We are creating chances, which is pleasing, but every side are able to create one or two and they seem to be taking theirs.”

He continued: “Performances have been improving so hopefully our results do as well.

“We’re not struggling like we were when I first took over, or in the first two months, but we do keep on losing vital players at the wrong time and we don’t have the back up in certain positions.

“We’re on the right track but it;s not easy when you’re trying to integrate new players. We’re not far away but games are starting to run out.”

Burnham have 11 league matches remaining this season starting with a difficult trip to table toppers Highworth Town this Saturday (3pm).

Paris said: “Highworth will definitely go up because they’re the best team in the league by far.”
