BURNHAM manager Paul Shone has labelled the seven remaining league fixtures as ‘must-win’ games in their battle against relegation this season.

The Blues currently prop up the Hellenic Premier Division table and are six point from safety ahead of a trip to fourth-bottom Lydney Town this Saturday (3pm).

Shone told the Observer: “It is a massive place in the sense that it’s a tough place to go. It’s not the nicest place to go but we have to take the points.

“It’s a game we’ve targeted but it’s a must-win for Lydney as well. If we win it could potentially lift us off the bottom and drag them back into the mix.

“They all must-win games now because we find ourselves rock bottom and potentially relegated.

“We will prepare well and I feel that if we can go with the right attitude and mindset we can take the three points.

“The game will be tough so we have to go there with the right attitude and mindset to put in a performance and hopefully come back with the three points.”

Burnham made progress in the Hellenic League Supplementary Cup after a 2-1 win at Abingdon Town on Tuesday.

Goals from Calvin Morgan and Aaron Jewell - his first for the club - gave the Blues a clear lead at Culham Road before Abingdon pulled one back.

Shone said: “I’m not sure how long back-to-back wins has been coming for the club but it’s good to get it. We’re in a good state of mind at the moment and everyone is excited so I can’t complain.

"We're still in the cup so we want to try and win it, that's the message to the players.

"We went as strong as possible and the result was a fair one. We could have won by more but missed a few chances.

"It was a pleasing performance but I'm disappointed with the goal we conceded late on.

"I've not had the chance to look at one or two but our keeper was absolutely outstanding. He kept us in the game in the first half. He made two or three great saves, so stood up and shone on the night.

"There were one or two new faces in the squad that came in and done really well."
