Chalvey Sports won 1-0 at Long Crendon to remain in third position in Division Two East on Saturday.

Matt Edwards scored the only goal of the game at the Recreation Ground in Long Crendon to secure all three points for the Stabmonks.

Chalvey manager Merv Lloyd told the Observer: “It was a hard-fought win to be fair. Everyone wants to beat us because we’re a feather in the cap now.

“We had to play in windy conditions and the pitch was not as flat as we are used to at Slough, but sometimes that keeps you grounded because we’re spoilt at Arbour Park.

“We realised the first goal was important and fortunately for us we got it. It was a little scrappy but it went in and got us three massive points.

“We would have been at panic stations otherwise and waiting for mistakes to happen because Long Crendon are not a bad side.

“It was a good game and, although it was only 1-0, it felt good because everyone went about it and excelled. It was not great football but all about the result.”

Lloyd added: “We’re still in charge of our own destiny and I think it will come down to the two Abingdon matches.

“It has been a bit stop-start for us, which is not the best thing in the world, but we’ve got a fully fit squad out of it. At one point we had five or six injuries so it has been beneficial in that respect “There was a little bit of rust on Saturday, but you can shake that off, and you can’t shake off an injury.”

Chalvey saw their league fixture at Chinnor Reserves postponed due to a frozen pitch at the Chinnor Community Pavillion on Tuesday.

The Stabmonks now face a trip to bottom side London Rangers on Saturday (3pm).

Lloyd commented: “We just want to play but I don’t know what will happen on Saturday. We want the weather to change but it looks like it’s going to be bad all weekend.

“Football can be a weird game but I might get the sack if we don’t get the three points. Anything can happen but every game is important.

“It’s going to be tough because London have nothing to play for. It will be a massive game for them so we know it will be tough, but we’ve got to do whatever it takes to keep on piling on three points.”
