SLOUGH Jets are staging a charity legends match to celebrate their 28 years as a professional club.

Jets – the town’s premier sporting club for almost three decades – ceased to exist as a professional outfit at the end of last season for financial reasons.

The club has now dropped out of the English Premier Ice Hockey League and will play in English National League Two next season, with a team of amateurs and youth players.

But that will not stop the kindhearted Jets from staging an exhibition charity match and a day of celebration to mark 28 years as a professional club.

Jets founder and legend Gary Stefan and head coach Craig Moran are part of the organising committee, along with Mark Denholm and Tammy Moran.

The celebration day will be a real treat for Jets fans and will take place on Saturday, July 19 at Absolutele Ice in Slough, with doors opening at 2.30pm.

That will be followed by an exhibition match at 3pm featuring some of the most famous names to have pulled on a Jets shirt over the past 28 years.

There will be plenty of entertainment off the ice too including a raffle and barbecue.

The celebrations are set to continue long into the night with a charity dinner at the Copthorne Hotel in Slough from 7pm onwards.

Jets supporters will have the chance to sit alongside some of the club’s legendary players during a meal which will be followed by a shirt auction and disco.

The event aims to raise money for long-term Jets charity partner SPICE (Special People on Ice) and the Lymphoma Association.

SPICE is a charity which makes skating and ice hockey accessible to those with additional needs from their Absolutely Ice base every Sunday morning.

Jets organisers are now putting the finishing touches to their plans for the charity event which will contain players who helped the club to major success in previous years.

Honours include winning the London Cup, Heineken League Division 1, Southern Cup, British Division 1, Benson & Hedges Plate and the British National League. Most recently jets also claimed the Premier Cup Winners and were three-times EPIHL Play-off Winners. Slough Jets Junior Ice Hockey club has also won the Youth Development Club Of The Year.

Tickets for the event are available in two formats or a combined ticket: Adult Game Ticket £10; Adult Evening Tickets £20; Child Game Tickets £5; Adult Combined Tickets £30.For more details, go to www.sloughjets.co.uk.
