SLOUGH Jets are just one win away from being crowned National Ice Hockey League South Two East champions this season.

The Jets have swept all before them this term and maintained their perfect record with a 7-0 win against Peterborough Islanders on Saturday.

Slough took the lead inside two minutes at The Hangar when Conor Redmond smashed the puck into an empty goal.

Peterborough netminder Daniel Lane was unfortunate to concede the goal having got a pad onto a shot from Tomas Gilheany.

The away team were gifted a powerplay advantage as Andrew Cox tapped the feet Conor Hunter, who was through on goal.

Peterborough peppered The Jets goal but found netminder Danny Milton in fine form, and the hosts doubled their lead at 16.49.

Lane made a kick save from Stas Prokofiev, but Liam Underwood was on hand to tap in at the back post.

Slough began the second stanza extremely well and they put the match to bed with four more unanswered goals.

Slick passing between Zoran Kosic and Alan Green left Lane sprawled on the ice, and Green fired into the open net.

Peterborough then began to make errors and The Jets capitalised to snatch two quick goals, both blue line shots.

The hosts were now in full swing and Ben Ealey-Newman side-stepped two defenders and shot between the legs of Lane.

The away team had no answer to the onslaught and the talented Josh Ealey-Newman added another goal before the buzzer.

Green skated behind the net and pulled the puck back to the onrushing Ealey-Newman to smash high into the net.

Slough conceded minor penalties at the start of the final period and Peterborough brought some fine saves out of Milton.

Prokofiev completed the rout after Josh Ealey-Newman had picked him out with a beautifully weighted pass.

To their credit, Peterborough still came at The Jets but the final buzzer saw the home side erupt with emotion.

Slough Jets will secure the league title if they can beat Lee Valley Lions at The Hangar this Saturday (6.45pm).

The two sides have clashed three times already this season with Slough coming out on top 9-1, 5-1 and 7-3.
