SLOUGH Town have returned to winning form in the Southern Premier Division this season after a 5-1 victory over Farnborough on Boxing Day.

The Rebels had not won in the league in three matches since their victory over Weymouth on November 18 but they were able to finish the calender year in style at Arbour Park.

A goal inside two minutes from winger James Dobson, his 17th of the season, gave Slough a narrow lead at the half-time interval.

Goals from captain Mark Nisbet and midfielder Nathan Webb secured the points for the hosts before the hour mark.

Striker Chris Flood then got his 14th goal of the season before Dan Walker pulled a goal back for Farnborough with 20 minutes still to play.

Substitute Gavin James had the final say with The Rebels fifth goal - his first since August - nine minutes from the final whistle.

Slough joint-manager Neil Baker said: “It was a deserved win but still frustrating at times. We’ve had some good chances again but not been clinical still.

“I know that’s probably a little bit harsh when we’ve won the game 5-1 but we done what we needed to do, we got the three points and it was relatively comfortable in the end.

“There were a couple of scars but I thought we were firmly in control.

“We had not played James before because he had been away for the week and we felt Chris could do with a rest, and we played Nisbet.

“Alan Inns hasn’t played an awful lot of football so to play three games in six days was probably too much so we thought we would bring Nathan Smart in. It was a toss-up between him and Guy Hollis, but Guy had not been available on Saturday.

“There’s no magic formula or anything like that, it’s just how we manage.

“It was a good free-kick [for the first goal] a good finish. I thought James was really lively, he put some great balls into the box.

“We should have been two or three goals up early. Brad Wadkins had a brilliant chance but instead of going with his head he’s tried to take it out the air and volley the ball, which is a tough thing to do, so we could have scored then.

“Simon had a brilliant chance as well and we always look dangerous from set-pieces, but we go lucky because they had a brilliant chance as well at 1-0.”

The Rebels dropped two valuable points at Arbour Park on Saturday after a 1-1 draw with Stratford Town.

A goal from Michael Taylor gave Stratford the lead nine minutes after the break, but Inns rescued a point for Slough with a strike three minutes into time added on - his first goal for the club.

The results leave Slough in sixth position in the league table and five points outside the play-off places, but with at least two games in hand on all the sides above them.

The Rebels make the short journey to rivals Chesham United on New Year’s Day (Monday, 3pm).
