BEN Harris wants to win promotion with Slough Town this season after completing the move to Arbour Park on Saturday.

Harris, 26, signed for The Rebels from Ascot United having previously played for Team Wellington and Miramar Rangers in the New Zealand Football Championship.

The striker chose Slough over several other interested clubs and came on as a substitute to score on debut in the 1-1 draw at Chesham United on Monday.

Harris told the Observer: “I was at Ascot to get minutes under my belt and improve my fitness levels after six months off, and I started to score goals.

“I’ve been in talks with Neil Baker and Jon Underwood for the last four years so it was time to take the chance, show what I can do and get back into the limelight.

“Windsor will always be home for me but Slough is just around the corner and I’m here to push on. I like the club and the direction it’s going in with the new stadium.

“The big aim is to win the league outright but if not get one of the play-off places.

“We’ve got some serious players here and a lot of leaders which is always helpful, so there’s no reason why we cannot win the league, but if not we have to make sure we go very close.

“My target is to break into the first team and then push on to help win the league with the boys.”

He continued: “I knew I would start the Chesham match on the bench but I was hoping to come on and make an impact at some point.

“Luckily that’s the way it panned out for me but it doesn’t really mean much when we don’t win.

“Chesham will be very happy with a draw, they stuck to their guns and might think they deserved it, but I know Slough will not be happy with just a point.”

Looking ahead to the clash with Hereford United this Saturday (3pm), Harris said: “It will be a tough game and Hereford have already made a statement in the league but I’m hoping to come on and make an impact.”
