SLOUGH Town extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight matches after a 3-2 win against Merthyr Town on Saturday.

The Rebels recovered from falling behind to win the match in injury time at Arbour Park, and climb into the play-off spots in the Southern Premier Division.

A goal from Matthew Lench gave Slough the lead inside six minutes but an Alan Inns own goal on the half-hour mark meant the two sides went into the break level.

Merthyr went ahead when Ian Traylor scored nine minutes after the restart, before Rebels striker Ben Harris saw his penalty saved by Oliver Davies.

Substitute James Dobson equalised for the home team on 63 minutes - moments after a minutes applause for Kevin McGoldrick - with his 18th goal of the season.

Lench then had a spot-kick saved by Davies in the fifth minute of time added on, but the midfielder reacted quickest to score and secure the points for Slough.

VIDEO: Slough Town joint-manager Neil Baker reacts to the 3-2 win against Merthyr Town on Saturday.

Rebels joint-manager Neil Baker told the Observer: "We were brilliant to start with and got an early goal, but if I'm brutally honest we should have been three up inside 10 minutes. We had some great chances.

"We were playing some excellent stuff in the first half and should have been out of sight, it's as simple as that.

"We have talked about being ruthless but it's a game where we've missed a lot of chances. We should have been well in front and the game should have been done really, but as in football, if you don't take your chances it could come back and haunt you.

"Merthyr had a throw down our side, which wasn't a throw for them, and they've ended up getting a corner from it and scored, which was their first attack of the game.

"You go into half-time at 1-1 and think let's go again. We started the second half okay and then Alan Inns wins a header but it hits someone on the back of the head and rebounds for Traylor, who gets in and puts it into the back of the net.

"You sit there and think it's going to ge one of those days so we made a couple of subs.

"We played a diamond formation and it was working. If you take your chances it works and everyone will say how well did we play, but we didn't so we brought on James and Warren Harris for a bit of width.

"James gets in and finishes brilliantly to make it 2-2.

"We've gone and got the third goal right at the death. Whether it was a penalty or not I don't know, I'm not 100 per-cent sure, but we've taken it and again the keeper has made a save, but Matt has followed it in this time and put it in the back of the net.

"It's just a relief really if I'm honest because we fully deserved to win the game.

"I'm just shocked at the whole events really because we should have been so much more comfortable, but we got there at the end and it's a big three points for us.

"We've got to the halfway stage and got 50 points, so we're tracking 100 points, which is brilliant."

Baker continued: "We made a decision to go with the diamond formation and it might have come back to haunt us if we had not have won.

"We made a decision that we were going to use all our players over the next two games. We thought that the diamond would probably hurt Merthyr more and it was.

"We were carving them open, creating plenty of chances and playing some really good stuff early on, but we didn't get our just rewards.

"I think we were confident because we know we can create chances and we do that time after time. The frustration is taken them.

"The difference is we are one of the top goal scorers in the league, we've scored 64 goals in 23 games which is ridiculous, but we could score so many more and that's the frustration."
