GOOD news was announced with the opening of a vital bridge but residents are not convinced it will help with traffic congestion.

The new Leigh Road Bridge in Slough opened to traffic on Friday last week and will be officially launched on October 14, with work having first started more than two years ago on the replacement.

Despite this meaning that traffic can flow more easily near Slough Trading Estate, motorists are not convinced it will make much difference to the rest of the congestion problems in the town.

Sharon Ballantyne wrote on The Observer's Facebook page: “It’s easy to get off the trading estate via Leigh Bridge now but the bottle neck from that junction going west all the way to M4 Junction 7 still exists.

“It really isn’t easy to get around Slough these days and very frustrating and timewasting.

“Not looking forward to further roadworks and road closures especially as we have no real say in what goes on!”

Diane Feasey added: “I live by [the] trading estate and since Thursday I can actually get out of my road and home again in 10 minutes doing the school run – just hope it stays like that.”

Anna Rech Yup wrote that she thought with all the road works going on, now is the time to get on her bike.
