RECYCLING banks for small electrical items are set to be removed from across South Bucks next week.

South Bucks District Council is to remove the recycle banks after 17 tonnes of old hairdryers, toasters, kettles and other small electrical items have been taken away to be recycled since the council introduced a kerbside collection scheme in February.

As a result of the scheme, the council feels there is no longer the need for the recycling banks situated at seven sites across the district. The banks will be removed from Neville Court car park and Jennery Lane car park in Burnham, The Broadway car park in Farnham Common, The Evreham Sports Centre, in Iver, Packhorse Road car park, in Gerrards Cross, the M40 services at Beaconsfield and The Beacon Sports Centre, in Beaconsfield.

District Councillor Luisa Sullivan, portfolio holder for environment said: “It’s wonderful that so many residents are using the kerbside collection to dispose of their broken or unwanted small electrical items.

“The kerbside collection scheme provides an easy and convenient way to dispose of all those unwanted items preventing them ending up in landfill. Not only does this help the environment but also keeps down the cost of waste disposal."

Larger items, for example, microwaves, fridge-freezers must not be put out for collection and can be taken to Household Waste and Recycling Centres; alternatively,. A bulky item collection can be arranged by contacting the council.
