THE army has launched an initiative to reach out to residents by showing them what it is doing and how it aims to engage wholeheartedly with the communities it serves and resides in.
With the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan now in the past the military and particularly the Army have tended to drop off the news agendas and so become a little further removed in the public’s consciousness so the Army’s South East Regional Headquarters delivered a presentation on Thursday (12/11) at The Centre in Farnham Road, Slough.
Guests at the event included cllr Mohammad Rasib, mayor of Slough, as well as other local councillors, school teachers, youth workers and community leaders.
Lieutenant Tony Singh Shergill, army cadet force commander at 3 Platoon, Slough Scots Guards, who now works for Cameron Clarke Lawyers in Slough, championed the army’s youth engagement.
He said: “Being an army cadet and later an adult instructor provided a roundness to me personally; something over and above mere academic qualifications."
Speaking after the event cllr Rasib said: “It was a wonderful presentation. I look for the community’s youngsters to engage more with the Army.”
