A WASTE disposal company has been fined after rubbish from an office renovation was found burnt and dumped in Colnbrook field.

Josh Oakes Services Limited, based in Langley, pleaded guilty to a duty of care offence before Reading Magistrates on Friday, April 15, and was fined £90 and ordered to pay £300 in courts costs.

A Windsor company had contracted Josh Oakes Services Limited, a waste disposal company with a valid licence, to legally dispose of the rubbish from a site in Twickenham.

Josh Oakes Services Limited removed the rubbish from the office renovation into a skip and instead of disposing of it legally, hired two men to take the rubbish from the skip into an open tipper for £100.

Unfortunately Josh Oakes, the director of the company, failed to check whether the two men he had hired had a valid waste carrier’s licence or how they were going to get rid of the waste.

The two men dumped the rubbish in a Colnbrook field and set fire to it.

Linda Corcoran, housing and enforcement officer from Slough Borough Council, said: “We are very supportive of businesses, but it’s important they understand their responsibilities and follow the law.

“The lesson here is that if you get someone else to dispose of your rubbish, you must make sure they have a valid waste carrier’s licence, otherwise it could be you who ends up in court.”
