JOBS could be on the line at two iconic high street stores as they both entered into administration this week.

British Home Stores (BHS), which has a shop in High Street, Slough, and Austin Reed, which has a store in Peascod Street, Windsor, both entered administration this week.

Both stores would not confirm how many employees are based at the two sites, but BHS has around 11,000 staff members across 164 stores nationwide, while Austin Reed has 1,184 staff over 100 standalone stores and 50 concessions.

Duff & Phelps has been appointed as administrators of BHS.

In a statement it said: "The group has been undergoing restructuring and, as has been widely reported, the shareholders have been in negotiations to find a buyer for the business. "These negotiations have been unsuccessful.

"In addition property sales have not materialised as expected in both number and value. Consequently, as a result of a lower than expected cash balance, the group is very unlikely to meet all contractual payments.

"Further announcements will be made as appropriate in due course."

The Austin Reed Group, founded in 1900, once counted Winston Churchill and Elizabeth Taylor among its customers and appointed AlixPartners on Tuesday to explore options for the business after it ran out of cash.

A statement issued by AlixPartners read: "Following their appointment, the joint administrators will continue to trade the group while exploring all possible options for its future including a sale of all or parts of the business."
