A MAN from Slough has been convicted of rape and GBH assault after he attacked a woman in her 50s at the crematorium.

Christopher Rode, 30, of Granville Avenue, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one count of grievous bodily harm with intent at Reading Crown Court today.

Rode attacked the woman on May 9 at Slough Crematorium in Stoke Road. He hit her over the head with an object and then raped her twice.

He was arrested on May 12 and charged the following day.

Investigating officer, Det Insp Stuart Brangwin from Force CID, said: “This was an horrific attack on a woman who at the time was paying her respects to a loved one in the public crematorium. The victim has been supported by specially trained officers during the investigation and I would like to acknowledge her courage throughout this extremely traumatic time.

“I am pleased that Rode has admitted responsibility for his actions and pleaded guilty to the offences.

“Crimes of this nature are fortunately very rare, and as this conviction demonstrates, Thames Valley Police will find those responsible and bring them to justice.

“My thoughts are with the victim and I hope that knowing Rode is behind bars will help her to move forward with her life.”

Rode is due to be sentenced at the same court on 11 July.
