A CARE provider has sponsored the creation of hand mitts for its customers thanks to volunteers.

Bluebird Care, based in Summers Road, Burnham, backed the creation of around 40 sensory hand mitts which were made in community knitting groups Knit Your Socks Off and Maidenhead Loving Hands.

Deputy care manager Katy Cresswell said: "We were delighted to partner with Knit Your Socks Off and to sponsor them to create sensory mitts for our customers. We thought the embellished mittens would be perfect for the customers we care for with dementia as the different textures and features are comforting and beneficial.”

Knit Your Socks Off was set up by Sbba Siddique from Asian Star Radio and Samina Hussain, from the Samina Hussain Cancer Foundation, when Samina was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2015. The Knit Your Socks Off team meet on a monthly basis to knit - donating knitted items to great, local charity causes.

Maidenhead Loving hands was set up by Taplow resident Adele Whellans in 2014 and the group meets on a monthly basis to knit for charity and share patterns.
