A LANGLEY woman has compiled an Indian cookery book based on the combined wisdom of women from older generations.

Anneeka Ludhra, 25, consulted a network of grandmothers when compiling her book, in order to get as much experience as possible into its pages.

The result is a 224-page publication titled ‘Dadima’s – Celebrating Grandmother’s Wisdom Through Indian Cooking’ that offers almost 50 unique recipes compiled from centuries-worth of experience.

Anneeka says the food in the book is unlike the Indian food found in restaurants in England.

She said: “ The result is a far cry from what you might find in most Indian restaurants.Their menus feature cuisine which has, not surprisingly, adapted to the English palette. But in the case of the grandmothers, there was more of a connection with India, and the knowledge they brought over here with them has been passed down across the centuries.”

Anneeka’s love of food came from an early age when she lived with her extended family in London and she connects the food of her heritage with the memories of her grandmother’s cooking and the stories of her life in India.

She said: “Older people have so much to offer, not only in the secrets of the kitchen learned over many decades, but in life experience. Of course it’s the food that really does the talking in the book – heeding the life advice is optional!”

Anneeka’s book is available for pre-order now from Waterstones and Foyles at £19.95.
