Elderly residents of Langley Haven care home in Rambler Lane went back to college on Tuesday But in a reversal of the usual situation they were the pupils and students at East Berkshire College's Langley campus in Station Road were doing the teaching.

The visitors spent the morning in the kitchen, learning to decorate cakes with up to date utensils that had not been invented when they were young.

The care home's activities co-ordinator Roxana Chirita said: "It was interesting to see the young students teaching the older visitors the latest techniques - it is usually the reverse.

"Cooking is one of the favourite activities of the residents at Langley Haven - and that applies to the men as much as the women. But there is always room for improvement so they were really looking forward to this trip."

Langley College has built up quite a relationship with the residents at its nearest care home in the town.

In January the care home residents will be back at the college - this time to visit the beauty salon where they will be pampered by students learning the tricks of the beauty business.

Roxana is sure they will approach the next trip with the same enthusiasm as this one.
