South Bucks residents who are thinking about giving a child in care a loving home in the new year are being encouraged to attend free information sessions in January.

The sessions, organised by Buckinghamshire County Council, aim to help people find out more about fostering and what it involves.

The council says it is in “constant need” for more people to come forward to become foster carers with more than 400 children and young people around the county looking for a foster home.

Councillor Lin Hazell, cabinet member for children’s services said: “The decision to foster is not one that is made overnight. It takes careful thought and consideration over a period of time.

“These information sessions are an ideal way to find out a bit more about the whole process and whether it could be right for you, but there is no commitment or pressure to sign up there and then.

“Fostering is a truly rewarding experience and the support available means you will always be close to help, advice or assistance whenever you need it.”

Staff from the council’s First Step team will be on hand to answer questions at the sessions in High Wycombe and Aylesbury, and there will be an opportunity to speak to existing foster carers about their experiences.

The sessions will take place as follows:

• Wednesday, January 11, at The Hub (ground floor room), Easton Street, High Wycombe.

• Thursday, January 19, at Aylesbury Opportunities Centre, Thame Road South, Aylesbury.
