AN ELECTRICITY fire forced firefighters to smash through the roof of a house to extinguish it.

Firefighters from Slough and Langley fire stations were called out to a fire at a home on Wexham Road at 12.30am this morning (Friday).

Although the house was only 'smouldering' when the firefighters arrived, the fact that the fire was in a difficult-to-reach location in the roof of the house meant extensive measures were required to dampen it.

Two hosereels were deployed, as well as a fire engine ladder; and firefighters broke a hole in the roof to grant themselves access to the location of the fire. A faulty light fitting was believed to be the cause of the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.

A spokesperson for Slough Fire Station noted that the home had no fire alarms; and urged homeowners to ensure they had correctly fitted and functional fire alarms.
